Qualitative Market Research Explained
The term qualitative market research is quite a mouthful, and sounds rather complicated. While it can get complex, it can also be simplified down to a level where the average Internet marketing professional can understand and use its concepts. One thing you need to know about this type of research is that it is not numerically statistically based like quantitive market analysis techniques. The information gathered is usually done so using a small group rather than a large one. This also makes it different from quantitive surveys that are mathematically analyzed. The qualitative research method is more psychological in nature.
There are different ways to conduct this type of research. One way is via the interview. An interview of this type may focus on core values and beliefs, and be conducted on a person to person basis. It is necessary to use a skilled and knowledgeable interviewer who understands what questions to ask, how to present them and how to analyze the answers. A more popular method of research is the focus group. Whether or not you've ever participated in one, it is highly likely you have heard of a focus group.
A focus group usually has between eight and twelve attendees. There is a leader who presents material to the group. There may be other analysts behind hidden glass or watching via webcam. These sessions are normally captured on film so the analysts can go back and review certain parts if necessary. Some focus groups are conducted online, but most are in person. The people in the group will be asked how they feel about certain things and their answers will be carefully analyzed both as a group and as individuals.
There are many small, medium and large firms that handle qualitative market research for all kinds of different companies. If you are a website owner who sells a product or wants this kind of research done for your business contacting a professional is the best way to go. For a free method of finding out what people want, poll your website visitors on particular issues. This can help you figure out how you can adapt your business to fit your clientèle's changing needs over time. Staying updated on trends and the desires of potential customers can help you rise above the rest and attract the traffic you want.
